FAQ

Questions, answered straight.

Government or commercial, these are the questions we hear most. Anything else? Ask us directly.

Do you work with small businesses, or only government clients?

Both. We serve federal and state agencies and defense contractors, and we deliver the same four service lines to commercial and small business clients: cybersecurity and compliance, cloud services, managed IT, and consulting and integration. Recent work includes cloud administration for a multi-location business, a security assessment and hardening engagement for a healthcare provider, and managed IT for a professional services firm.

How much do your services cost?

Pricing depends on scope, so we do not publish flat rates. Every engagement starts with a free consultation, after which you receive a customized plan with defined scope and cost, with no obligation until you approve it. Finding out if we are a fit costs nothing: email laurence@apexitconsultingllc.org or call (808) 252-3197.

Who is actually doing the work? What are your qualifications?

APEX is led by founder Laurence Jackson, a U.S. Army veteran with more than 17 years in national security and the intelligence community, including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. He holds seven cybersecurity certifications aligned to DoD 8570, including ISACA CISM and CISA and CompTIA SecurityX. The credentials that protect federal systems are applied directly to your engagement.

What happens after I contact you? How does onboarding work?

We respond within one business day, and the process runs in four steps: a free consultation to understand your environment, a customized plan, implementation, and ongoing support. That last step is built in, not an add-on. You are not on your own when the project ends.

Can you work alongside our existing IT staff?

Absolutely. We complement in-house staff, not replace them. Internal IT teams are usually stretched thin on daily support, so we take on the specialized work: security assessments, NIST 800-171 and CMMC alignment, cloud migration, system hardening, and modernization planning. Your team gets results they can maintain.

Can you help us move to the cloud or manage Microsoft 365?

Yes. Our cloud services cover migration, Microsoft 365 administration, backup and data protection, and ongoing optimization. We handle the move and keep it running afterward.

Do you handle CMMC and NIST 800-171 compliance for defense contractors?

Yes. Cybersecurity and compliance is a core service line, covering NIST 800-171 alignment, CMMC readiness, security assessments, system hardening, and ongoing monitoring. If you hold or pursue DoD work, we start with a free consultation to scope where you stand and build a path to compliance.

Is APEX IT Consulting eligible for SDVOSB set-aside contracts?
